Mr. Coffee ECM20 Steam Espresso Maker

Nowadays, it seems to be perfectly understandable for people to try and enjoy the goodness of products sold in outside stores in the comfort of their own homes. Not only is this very convenient, but it also allows you to relax and be perfectly comfortable while you enjoy the benefits of having to, say, drink coffee right at your own home.

While it is no wonder that coffee places like Starbucks earn so much from the coffee hype, most people would now like to have the option of being able to make their own coffees according to their tastes, and enjoy it in their own homes. With this, Mr. Coffee, a long- standing brand when it comes to home- made coffee and home- grade brewers, introduces the Mr. Coffee ECM20 Steam Espresso Maker, which promises to make your brewing easier and faster than before. So is this new gizmo worth your second look (and buck)? Read on to find out.

Key Features

* Steam Espresso Maker
* Makes 1-4 cups of espresso
* 3-way knob allows for separate brewing and frothing
* Control dial
* Pressure safety valve
* Removable water reservoir for easy filling
* Removable drip tray for easy clean-up
* Convenient Cord Storage
* Measuring scoop and tool included

Straight out of the box, the Mr. Coffee ECM20 Steam Espresso feels light, weighing in at a load of 8 lbs. That should be enough to qualify the Mr. Coffee brewer as a lightweight piece of machinery.

The rather compact- looking machine makes it easier for users to enjoy a cup up until about four of the product’s smooth espresso blends. The machine’s steam control mechanism and frothing aid do wonders in steaming the milk to create the perfect ingredients for your cappuccino and latte blends.

Moreover, the 3- way Select Knob allows you to do two different processes at the same time- that is, brewing your coffee, and at the same time, frothing your milk to create that perfect blend.

The machine’s removable parts enable its users to reach in the brewer’s body and clean it efficiently to enhance its performance should parts be clogged with spare particles and dried up grounds.

The Mr. Coffee ECM20’s pressure safety valve alerts users of critical pressures within the brewer, and helps them adjust the pressure accordingly to the levels needed for the machine to function efficiently.

Where to get it

    This machine does the trick. I bought it to brew espresso so I could recreate Starbucks’s vanilla latte and save myself $5 a day. I’m not picky about coffee and I had never made espresso before; this product made the process relatively painless for me. I use it with Starbucks brand espresso, Starbucks vanilla syrup, and vanilla flavored soy milk. Still haven’t figured out how to use the steam wand though, but I think that’s just due to my lack of experience with this type of machine. Still, the instructions should be more clear in terms of making steam. (I don’t know what I did wrong but when I tried to steam milk the steam wand sucked the milk in instead of blowing steam out. I then had to clean the inside of the machine with vinegar. So now I am afraid of the steam wand and I’ve been microwaving my milk.)

    A real piece of Cheap Chinese Crap. Worked only 7 months – then the control knob broke off. This knob control both the power (on/off) and the steam valve (diverts steam to the latte steamer nozzle OR to the brewer). The plastic knob stem broke where it was attached to the steam valve – this should have been a metal part – not plastic. Another piece of landfill due to poor engineering. I suggest you avoid any Sunbeam (aka Mr. Coffee) products.

    Iv’e owned this unit for over six years and it still works great. The seal on the lid still holds steam unlike other espresso machines that fail after a few years. This is not a professional unit that will produce the best espresso, however, this machine contains no pumps that could potentially fail. This unit simply and reliably makes OK espresso. If you are looking for a durable and reliable espresso machine, this is it. For you Baristas, do not expect amazing espresso.

    Tips:

    1.To get thing thing to work well, build up sufficient pressure and steam by steaming your milk first.

    2.After you have steamed your milk, turn the valve on the left to the espresso setting and let the bad boy do its thing.

    3.Grind your coffee grounds very fine and be patient, as this is not a pump unit. To make good espresso, do not make more than two shots at a time.

    I use this unit every day to get jacked-up for work in the Military, it can work for you too! Enjoy!

    I had heard bad things about getting a “low-end” espresso maker, but this works great. You should definitely read the directions because some of the functions are a little tricky. Once I made a few cups, it was very easy. Well worth the money!

    I should have learned the first time, but no….I tried this model 3 times. Doesn’t say much for my decision making! The handles on each and every one broke within a few months. The lid doesn’t stay in place and the espresso is weak tasting. I tried a finer grind, but then the machine just blows out steam all over the place. Guess I’ll have to put out bigger bucks for better quality.

    I’ve had 3 of these in the last 3 years. The average lifetime of this machine seems to be one year. Something or the other will fail. On one of them, steam started leaking from the top and the control knob broke on another. Too bad because I really liked the cappuccino it makes. I’m from southern India and it made great South Indian Coffee. Maybe I’ll get another one with the expectation that it will only last one year.

    I live alone and only want one cup of fresh strong coffee in the morning. I don’t give a hoot for what you call my coffee – Espresso or just strong coffee. I’m a senior citizen and I like what I like. And I hate stale and bitter coffee. Of course you may make your own custom coffee with this Espresso Maker.

    One little level scoop (the little scoop that comes with the unit) of freshly ground coffee, with three quarters of a cup of cold water, makes exactly the strength I want. I let the brewed coffee go directly into the cup I am going to drink from, and top it off with non-fat milk and a half spoon of sugar.

    I like to use my Magic Bullet to grind up one cup of Espresso coffee beans at a time, and I keep the ground coffee covered tightly in the fridge until used. Since I make only one cup of coffee at a time, and never reheat coffee, I get a fresher and better tasting brew. And since there is no waste the cost is minimal.

    Cleanup is a snap: just remove the spent grounds and rinse out the little piece that held the grounds (the Brew Basket). If I were to use the Glass Decanter I would take a little dish washing liquid and water to clean out any residual coffee oils.

    I have owned several Mr. Coffee latte machines – but this one is difficult to operate with the smooth knobs – inadequate water storage. I miss my old Mr. Coffee which I do not believe they make anymore.

    Mr. Coffee ECM20 Steam Espresso Maker is OK, but the new models are much better preform quicker and all for the same price.

    Okay! Let me start by telling you this is my second one. I love the way it brews my espresso but….the handle breaks off. This latest unit lasted 8 months before the black handle attached to the brewing basket snapped off. What a mess. It’s practically impossibe to use without the handle. I am not using brute force either. It’s ridiculous how much I have babied this appliance. I’ll sum it up as poor design!

    I was really upset with the shipping. This was a wedding gift and UPS could not see their way clear to deliver this package in a timely fashion. Also the product was broken when the recipient removed it from the packaging. Not a good way to do business.

    Really disappointed with this espresso maker! The worst is that it never really gets the espresso hot and therefore makes it difficult to get any steam for the foam. Unfortunately, a big waste of money. To get good espresso (at home) I think you have to spend more money on a quality machine! Think I’ll just continue to go to

    Starbucks!
