Good machine at this price point

This was my entry machine into the espresso world. I bought it because of the positive reviews and its ability to use pods. I wanted the latte making process to be quick and clean. And the pods were fine (I used Lavazza). But then I started reading the forums on CoffeeGeek, where you will find no love for this machine. And I began to obsess, as many seem to do with espresso, over how to get the best shot with what I have.
Well the pods went out the window. I started buying from roasters around the country like Klatch, Terroir, Counter Culture Coffee, Caffe Fresco, etc. Huge improvement. Then I bought a relatively inexpensive burr grinder (Capresso Infinity), another tremendous improvement. I bought a non-pressurized portafilter basket (the kind without the rubber gasket). Again, big difference. Also, don’t use the cheap plastic tamper…buy a Terry’s tamper for like $7. So my latte making process is now a bit longer, but certainly worth the extra time.
So with these slight modifications and practices, this machine can produce a very solid latte. It can produce microfoam with the cheap wand, but it takes some practice. I definitely recommend it for the price.

I’ve had this espresso maker for a week and so far, it’s great! I love it. It is fast and gets the job done. I like that the coffee grounds holder sits flat on the counter and comes with 2 filters – one for single, one for double. The machine heats up quickly. You can have a latte in minutes. I use soymilk and the latte is like any you’d get at a good cafe! The water reservoir is HUGE so this would be a good machine for a family or someone who needs to make a lot of coffees at once. As I am just one person, I barely fill it up for one coffee. Overall, it’s easy to use, easy to clean and highly recommended.

Ok, so I was searching amazon for the best review’d espresso machine and this is one I found had the least issues people had reported and most love it.
So I’m here to add to the awesome! I just got it a few days ago and have already enjoyed it sooo much. The foamer took a little practice, but it works great. I was worried that I wasn’t getting the right grind for the machine because the coffee came out kind of white/tan[and i bought a fresh espresso bean that day], even after the 5 initial washes with just water, but it is cleared up. It’s kind of messy at times but very much worth it. Oh, and it’s looks sexy on my counter-top.
Space-saver too!
I love it! Hot chocolate is easily made with this as well.

I love this machine. In fact, I needed a second machine for my office so I bought a second one exactly the same. It’s a great price and it makes a good coffee. After reading some of the other reviews I do have to admit that maybe the foamed milk isn’t really piping hot.

I received the DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker as a Christmas gift from my husband. He really did his research and made a smart choice with the DeLonghi brand. He also made sure the machine was pump-driven, an important consideration. After years of enjoying espresso and capuccino in restaurants, I am now able to create that same pleasure for myself and my guests in the comfort of my own home. This machine is easy to operate, has removable parts which makes it so easy to clean and brews perfect, savory, aromatic, espresso coffee with just the right amount of creamy foan on top, that is an absolute delight. My guests are always impressed with the robust, flavorful coffee I am able to serve from this machine. The frother works beautifully, bringing the milk to a creamy, foam at just the right temperature producing excellent capuccino as well. I would highly recommend the DeLonghi BAR32. It is an excellent machine at an affordable pricepoint. Brews great coffee!

I am the kind of person who would love to start a day with a hot cup of coffee. I usually take it with some milk and sugar. This is my first ever espresso machine. It’s been only little over 1 month since I got this machine but so far I liked it very much. The diagrams and instructions were helpful in understanding how the machine is to be operated. I tried making cappuccino the very first time I used it. From my limited experience, I have to say that the machine does make good espresso and can generate fair amount of froth from milk for making a cappuccino. I tried with 2% milk. Did not try with skim milk as they recommended. Haven’t had any issues so far. The waiting time for the machine to get hot is not that much (may be 2-3 minutes). I used the 2 cup filter and always press the powder in the filter very hard to make the coffee as strong as possible. The espresso itself comes with lot of air bubbles, so that when I just add milk, it remains frothy without using the steam pump. I am pretty satisfied with it so far. I use dark roast coffee. I need to experiment with some other coffee power. I would recommend this machine to any first time buyers. At the time of this writing, they lowered the price even more so this is a good bargain.

I got this machine in the mail last week. My previous Mr. Coffee steam driven espresso maker died after about six months use. I decided to get a better machine since the less expensive steam driven units use aluminum for boiler construction. I took apart the Mr. Coffee and I could see that there was a little corrosion in the bottom of the boiler, meaning that I am drinking aluminum tainted coffee. No thanks.
Now, back to the Delonghi. The first few days that I used it, I hated it. I was going to send it back, but didn’t get around to it right away. The coffee was anemic and the steamer didn’t quite cut it. I make two mugs of cappuccino in the morning, and had to keep closing the steam knob and wait for the OK light to go back on. I learned to just keep the steam on and to open the knob more than the 1/4 turn that is recommended. It steams the milk just fine that way. I also didn’t like having to dump the grounds and refill the filter basket in order to get a full carafe of strong espresso. ( I have switched to a french roast and espresso beans and use bottled flavoring. That seems to make the best coffee if I want flavored coffee). I do like the fact that I can make a mug of decaf for my wife, and then a cup of leaded for myself in short order. It just took some experimentation to get it right, since the instructions don’t cover the nuances of the machine. I am really glad that I gave the Delonghi a chance. Every time I use it, I like it more. The only reason that I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the filter basket really should be a little larger. Then I could make enough espresso for two mugs of cappuccino without having to refill the basket. The steamer is also a tad too low to be able to steam milk in any decent sized container. I like to use the mug that I drink the coffee from, and it just doesn’t fit. I can tilt the mug to get it under the nozzle, but can’t do that once the milk is frothed without spilling some of it. The machine has to be lifted a little to get the mug out. But I can live with that. I would definitely recommend this espresso maker. It works great once you get the hang of it.

The negative reviews don’t do this product justice. Just go by the instructions and use a good espresso ground coffee and it comes out great! I found the best price for this unit is definately on Amazon!!

got this maker for Christmas and so far love it. it’s easy to use,very quiet and makes a great latte. Didn’t come with metal milk pitcher so used the one I had from a previous maker. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on a maker when this one works great.

This is the first time I purchase this brand. The coffee machine works very good so far. It makes a very good creamy milk for the cappucino. This product was purchased approximately 23 days ago and in this little time the machine works very good.
Ok for small cups only

Takes a long time to heat up, and you cannot steam the milk and make the shots at the same time. It does not have enough power to do the shots, then steam the milk, you have to wait inbetween them. Plus, you have to take off the foam nozzle (threaded on) to clean, and it doesn’t really foam very well.
Underpowered for a large travel mug or “Venti” sized latte. If you are just making small drinks it will work ok. Good price for small sizes.

All these negative reviews concerned with the quantity of coffee we can get with this coffee maker make me laugh. This is a machine for home usage, not for a coffee shop. Also it is an ESPRESSO coffee maker for single serving, single means one or two 70ml cups. Espresso is strong and small. For those who add milk, cream and other stuff that ruins the espresso – get a different coffee maker, not espresso, and you can get big buckets of coffee that looks more like tea, so you can fill your giant mugs!

I have had this machine for about 2 months and am very happy with the mochas I can make at home. The espresso has that beautiful crema consistency, and the steamer for the milk produces great foam. I find the machine easy to use and clean. I am able to make mochas equivalent to the best coffee bars. This is a great machine and a great value.
