The Bodum Pavina Double Wall Shot Glass is 2 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is ‘floating’ within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, or cafe and they are a definite conversation piece. Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass. Stronger than traditional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together. Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass. Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings, In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. more info

They work well with the DeLonghi Espresso Maker, and they are nicely insulated so you don’t burn your hand when you are pouring a shot.
very breakable
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
these things break if you look at them wrong. I’ve broken several of these – and for the price they should hold up a little better to routine usage.
Nice looking, now in the garbage

Fragile. Broke it just washing it with my fingers. And I don’t exactly have big, meat-hook hands. Normals hands, broken cup.
Attractive and functional design
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
These work very well to retain heat in a shot of espresso while you are preparing the milk and additional shots for other people. I like the sleek design too. Unfortunately both of mine were accidentally dropped within a few weeks after purchase and they shattered to SMITHEREENS (I’m still looking for all the pieces!). I replaced them with something different but would definitely buy these again at some point.
beautifully made

I love this cup. I got 2 cups at first to try them and got 6 more. Unless you have giant hands and have a hard time gently holding things, I don’t think these are going to break at all. I’ve washed them in the dishwasher and by hand and they’re not that delicate. These cups are BEAUTIFUL and i always receive compliments on them. I’m so happy I got them!
Good enough for pod-espresso users, but for high-end espresso making seek out something better
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Pros & Cons:
+ Double wall keeps outside cool
+ Inexpensive
- Bottom plastic “valve sticker” looks ugly
- Not that stylish overall
In a nutshell:
Good enough for pod-espresso users, but for high-end espresso making seek out something better
Full review:
I bought these cups as I needed a pair of espresso cups and these looked stylish and functional enough. I believe that the double-wall does its purpose in keeping the outside of the cup cool, but that is not a major point to me. The bottom of the glass has a plastic “valve sticker” which looks rather ugly, and the overall design of the cup didn’t impress me that much once I hold them in hand (personal opinion here). I ultimately decided to buy an extra pair of $40 (much more expensive) cups. So if you’re seriously into espresso-making at home (i.e. you have a real espresso machine such as a Pavoni, Cimbali, and the like) definitely skip these. For the very casual user (i.e. Nespresso pods) they should be fine.
No more burnt fingers.

I use these at the espresso machine. They work great. Hold 2oz each, so that works out well for me. Best of all, my fingers stay nice and cool.
I broke one once and just got another set. They sure do shatter. It was my fault, but these explode. Be careful with them. I got glass EVERYWHERE.
What’s with the silicone plugs on the bottom??
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve admired these glasses for quite a while and NEVER remember seeing silicone plugs at the bottom of the cups…so tacky! Cannot be removed either, they are plugging up a hole at the base of the cup.
These are going back sadly : As much as I used to love these cups, I can’t get past the silicone ill see at the bottom of every drink. This must be a new ‘feature’ as none of the pictures ive seen have the plugs either. Also, the silicone seal/glue they used was done very sloppily as well..excess is streaked on the bottom of the glass. Such a bummer
I’m assuming functionality is still the same, but id say at least 50% of the appeal of these cups is the appearance, and the silicone gaskets definitely ruin it for me.
Anyone else experience this with recent orders or did I get an odd set? FYI I ordered these yesterday (Dec. 10) so anyone looking to buy these soon, be wary of the new design change(??)
shame on you Bodum, I want to love these again.
GREAT PRODUCT

I’ve had these before and loved them. My guests always are intrigued by them and they are very stylish and functional. The last package I received had one that leaked so check carefully. They should test them more accurately at the factory.
Beautiful little shot glasses that are surprisingly durable!

I have a few other Bodum products (my one-cup french press is a personal favorite) and thought I’d give these glasses a try. I recently spent 2 weeks in Italy and upon tasting my “regular” coffee I made at home I was heartbroken. I went on a hunt for decent performing, affordable espresso / cappuccino gear to satisfy my longing. Enough of the silly background!
Why these glasses:
One thing important to keeping as much flavor in your caffe is heat. This involves preheating your cups with hot water or a warming tray before filling them with your favorite drink. I was finding that I had to drink my shots a bit faster than I wanted with a “normal” demitasse. I saw these glasses and thought I would give them a try – I thought the double wall would be good for holding in more heat.
Worries / initial impression:

The only worry I had about these before I ordered was how fragile the picture makes them look. I am not a graceful person by any means and I could foresee the possible death of one of these beauties at my hands. The reasonable Amazon price and my experience with other Bodum glass products convinced me to give them a try. Unpacking the glasses from the box didn’t encourage me – they arrived in a sturdy cardboard box packed with bubble wrap. I gently extracted one glass and held it gingerly in my fingers as I looked at it. They really are gorgeous little things. I have big hands and they are a good fit for me, yet my wife has very small hands and they seem to be the perfect size for her too. I just couldn’t get the thought out of my head that I should handle these things with the utmost care – not unlike your great-grandmother’s set of handblown Austrian Christmas ornaments that have been passed down through the family for the past 100 years, ending up in your care.

Performance:
Immediate and strategic action was taken and I survived the incident (placing a large ice cube in my mouth until it completely melted – based on prior experience).
Someday, I may take some time to pour a sacrificial shot, then plot the change in temperature over time of these glasses vs. a regular demitasse; until then, I am going to claim that these wonderful things will keep your shots within good drinkable temps for at least five minutes. For those that like to drink their shots a bit cooler (and quietly – I loudly “sip” air over the shot as I drink it), you can enjoy your drink for at least 10 minutes (double shot).
I have only had these glasses for a short time, but I use them three to four times a day and have a good feel for them already. I run hot water through my espresso machine to preheat everything and that includes the glasses I drink from – including these. The first thing that happened when I went to sip my first shot is that I burned my mouth. This highlights the first quality I would’ve realized if I were a smarter person: the outside of the glass stays comfortably “cool” (compared to the 170F liquid inside the cup). I thought that I somehow poured a lukewarm shot and went to dispose of it quickly (by gulping it, I’m too cheap to just pitch it) and immediately found out just how hot it was. Mother always said I was more brawn than brains, and I’m not a very strong guy either.
So, take number two was much better. Outside of glass stays cool despite how molten the liquid inside is, check. Normally, I would have to drink my espresso within about two minutes of making it before it cooled off too much to enjoy. That’s fine if you’re in Italy standing at a bar, but I would really like take my drink from the kitchen, go sit in front of the fire, then enjoy the drink over a few minutes without losing the flavor. These glasses allow me to do just that.

Durability:
Despite trying to treat these with kid gloves, I have managed to knock them around pretty good, and they are no worse for wear. I treat them with the same care I reserve for glass and ceramic kitchenware with great results. I originally thought I would have to handle these like I do with champagne and wine glasses (imagine someone playing the old milton-bradley board game “Operation” crossed with a nervous person handling nitroglycerin) but they are tough little guys! I bump them when I wash them, bang them into other glassware and can set them down on our stone counter top without having to emulate the early eighties video game “lunar lander”. Dishwasher safe too!

Miscellaneous:
The double wall construction creates a very comfortable lip to sip espresso over – it even seems to enhance my experience. The glass has a hole in the outside bottom with a silicon plug/”valve” in it to allow the pressure inside the glass to equalize with the atmosphere. Very clever design that enhances safety (perhaps a hot liquid poured in a cold glass would cause excessive pressure to build up – potentially creating enough force to scatter glass in a larger area if you should drop it – by that is just an engineering guess), but I don’t know how durable it is with repeated trips to the diswasher or if you microwave it (I have NO IDEA if it is microwave safe, but in my opinion, you don’t buy this set of teeny glasses to warm up small amounts of liquid in the microwave). For me, a simple hand wash and dry before setting them on top of my coffee maker works well. The size is good and not cumbersome washing or drying and I can get my fingers inside with a towel to dry everything.
Also, if you use these for espresso, it is neat to watch the layers form as you pull shots into them – very similar to watching a pint of Guinness properly poured – or at least the one time I bought one.
Cliffs notes:
A beautiful set of shot glasses that are relatively cheap, durable, and incredibly functional. I cannot think of a thing about them I would change.

Love them!

The double layer glass works really well! The outside of the glasses stays really cool, so they’re perfect for espresso making.
I love this cup!

It is cute, amazing and very useful. We use for coffee and tee. It is very fragile but if you are a careful person this will not be a problem. I would like to by more!
Too fragile!
The next week my husband picked up 2 MUCH sturdier glasses from Starbucks for half the price and no delivery wait. These Bodum glasses are elegant but not practical for daily use.

We were able to use these one week. At the end of the week I was hand-washing the cups after making coffee, and one glanced against the edge of the sink and shattered. I was not washing in a reckless or overly-vigorous manner. I was so disappointed – what a waste of money.
Awesome Espresso Shots
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
These are wonderful for espresso. They feel very fragile but it gives you a feeling that the beverage is suspended on air and it is also very nice to hold it without it getting warm or cold. Cool product from design standpoint its very smart.

Bought this as a gift for our daughter to go with her new espresso machine and frothing pitcher. She loves them!
